  4. Add just enough water to cover potatoes -push them further down in the pan if needed so you know how much you need to add. Don't add too much water as you don't want it to be soupy.
  5. Chop remaining butter into small pats. Add to pot and stir
  6. Stir in Worcestershire sauce. You can add more than 1/4 cup if you want a little extra flavor
  7. Bring to a boil them simmer 30-40 minutes or until potatoes are cooked through and most of the water has boiled out.
  8. In a small bowl, mix corn starch with a little bit of water. Stir into goulash to thicken.

Serve this over homemade noodles (or add potatoes) or with a side of bread or Biscuits to sop up any of the broth left in your bowl. Now that it's autumn, the only real way to stay warm is this delicious Hungarian Goulash (gulyás). Crusty bread and sour cream, preferably the Eastern European sort called smetana are perfect side dishes for the Hungarian beef goulash. However, nowadays I love eating goulash with mashed or boiled potatoes. You can also serve the goulash with dumplings - nokedli, gnocchi, spätzle, egg noodles.
