The ingredients needed to make Methi Paneer (Fenugreek Cottage Cheese):

  1. Make ready 220 grams Paneer , cubed
  2. Make ready 2 cups Methi Fenugreek / leaves
  3. Get 1 Onion large size , chopped
  4. Make ready 2 Tomato medium size , chopped
  5. Make ready 1 tsp Ginger-Garlic paste
  6. Make ready 1 Green chilli , finely chopped
  7. Take 3/4 tsp Coriander powder
  8. Get 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
  9. Make ready to taste Salt
  10. Get 1/3 tsp Turmeric powder
  11. Prepare 2 tbsps Cream
  12. Take 5 - 6 tbsps White oil
  13. Get 1/2 cup Water
  14. Take 3/4 tsp Sugar

Since we do not get very bitter fenugreek leaves here, I add them directly. Paneer and methi are two ingredients that can turn any curry in to rich and healthy curry respectively. In this methi paneer masala curry recipe, these Shallow fried paneer cubes are used in this curry to get richer experience of paneer methi. However, you can add paneer cubes without shallow frying.

Steps to make Methi Paneer (Fenugreek Cottage Cheese):

  1. In a non-stick pan, heat 2 tbsp of oil. Lightly saute the paneer cubes, and keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, add 2-3 tbsp oil, and then add the onion and the ginger-garlic paste. Fry on medium heat for 3-4 mins.
  3. Next, add in the tomato. Fry for another 3-4 mins, till the masala starts to release oil at the edges.
  4. Add the methi leaves. Pour in more oil if required. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and a pinch of salt
  5. Fry for 5-6 mins, or still the leaves are completed cooked. Taste to see that the leaves are no longer bitter.
  6. Pour in the water, and bring to a boil. Then reduce the flame to low, and add in the sautéed paneer cubes.
  7. Cover and cook for 2 mins.
  8. Next, add in the cream and the sugar. Season with salt, if required.
  9. Mix well. Let the gravy simmer for another minute or two.
  10. Your dish is ready. The gravy should be thick and creamy.
  11. Enjoy with rice or rotis.

The methi/fenugreek leaves add a meltingly soft texture and blend perfectly with paneer (Indian cottage cheese). There is something about leafy greens that feels so rich and filling.
