Uttapam (aka Uttappa or Oothapam) is yet another healthy breakfast recipe from South Indian cuisine prepared with a common rice and urad dal batter used for preparing Idli and dosa.

  1. Get 3 Cups rice
  2. Get 1 cup urad dal

  7. Get 100 gm paneer
  8. Take Half cup sprouts
  9. Get as required green chilli

Oats uttapam or oats uthappam recipe with step by step photos. Oats uttapam can also be made using any left over dosa batter. Every week I am usually left with little batter after making dosa, i use. A delicious and quick breakfast recipe made with rice and urad dal, seasoning and top with vegetables.

Steps to make Healthy Uttapam:

  1. For batter - grind rice, urad dal, poha and fenugreek seeds.
  2. Keep the mixture overnight or 7-8 hours to ferment.
  3. After fermentation add salt. Add water as per required consistency.
  4. Cut onion, tomatoes, green chilli, coriander. Grate paneer. Take sprouts and add all above ingredients, add salt, little jeera powder and mix them well.
  5. Spread batter on tawa and spread above mixture on uttapam. Add oil or butter on sides of uttapam. Cook it from both the sides. And serve hot with sambar & chutney.
  6. I made red chutney with dry red chillies, chana dal, coconut, onion, garlic and tamarind.

The uttapam should be thick like regular uttapams. Now reduce the flame to medium. Repeat the same process for the rest of the batter.
